Tantus Hookah Review – Super Soft Silicone Fantasy Dildo

The time has come for….another tale about weird things I’ve stuck in my vagina. & Today – that means I’m reviewing the Tantus Hookah!

‘Who are you?’ said the Caterpillar.
‘I — I hardly know, sir, just at present — at least I know who I WAS when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.’ said Alice

Tantus fangirl mode: activated.

I say it every time “premium” silicone comes upI love Tantus. Period. Fangirl mode forever, they’ve never failed me. Being what I consider the Gold Standard of silicone implements – Tantus started in 1997 with the core belief that “each person has the right to a healthy sex life, and that sexual health encompasses many aspects of physical and mental well-being”. Can’t say that I disagree, that shit’s important. In a time where the standard sex toys available were largely not body safe, and were mostly mass produced – Tantus set out to do something different. Making beautiful, body-safe & boutique worthy toys – while also making them available to a mass market. Not just drawing in buyers already well versed in sex toys & sexual health. I can vibe with that!

It was ground-breaking at the time, and even now not every “big” sex toy company has risen to the standards Tantus set in the 90s! Meanwhile, they’re still out here making top-notch toys, and making sex education accessible to their consumers. (And generally, doing a really good job with customer relations! Friendly is an understatement.) Badass.

Even though I consider Tantus to be a “premium” toy brand – when I say that, I mean in terms of quality and not necessarily pricepoint. When I was first branching out into buying body-safe toys, I checked off Tantus as being a brand I wanted to go out of my way to save up for & buy from. (And I did! They were a staple in one of my favorite local sex shops, thankfully.)

…But I hadn’t bought a new Tantus toy in at least five years, and my first encounters have since been lost to the sands of time (or left with past partners, I don’t need custody of every dildo I’ve ever touched!) So, scouring SheVibe late at night for something fun, I set my sights on the Tantus Hookah

I’ve never owned a “fantasy” dildo, never tried Tantus’ “Super Soft” silicone formula, and had a really hard time pulling up reviews on the Hookah when I was debating on throwing it into my cart. (Seriously, I could only find two.) So! In today’s review, I’ll be giving a unique dildo a place to shine though I stick it where the sun doesn’t.

(As always, I talk a lot. Feel free to click to navigate to the specs, my experience, and the bottom line.)

First Impressions:

As always, my order arrived safely – and discreetly. Blah blah blah you all know the drill. Once I got inside, I uncovered the standard Tantus packaging – white card board & a nice big window to show off the Hookah like it was art. And wow.

For whatever reason, I managed to ignore the name and the description when I bought the Hookah because I was so wrapped up in how “cute” it was. My obliviousness aside – the Alice & Wonderland vibes the Hookah set out to capture, it certainly succeeded in. (Especially in Rockabilly Blue! Though it’s also available in Punk Rock Pink.)

The Hookah ran me about $49 – which seems on the lower end price-wise for fantasy toys to me. However – Tantus does run absolutely killer sales & coupon promotions often (one of my favorites being a few times a year where just about everything is half-price!)

Regardless, worth it. With proper care you can keep silicone forever.

Gimme the specs!

Why am I such a sucker for blue toys? We’ll never know!

Like all Tantus toys, the Hookah is made of platinum cured silicone – making cleanup as easy as soap & warm water. To go above and beyond – you can even sanitize it by boiling it between partners or orifices. (Or even by throwing it in the dishwasher!) As always – silicone works best with water based lubes. (If you’re using a hybrid or oil-based lube, check material compatibility on the packaging! Either way, don’t use silicone lube with the Hookah – or other silicone toys.)

The Hookah has a nice wide base, with the flare making it safe for anal & suitable for harness use. (If you have a big enough o-ring!) The base is thick enough that it doesn’t completely crumple up when used as a handle, either. The Hookah’s total length is 6” – and 5.6” of that is insertable. The “head” so to speak is 1.3” wide – though it’s largest points are a full 2” wide. Jesus! I chose “Rockabilly Blue” because I’m always looking for pretty blue sex toys, and it’s almost got a pearlescent finish in person. And in case you didn’t notice – yup, those are three big gorgeous swirls in the lumps. (Which seem like they’d be a pain to clean – surprisingly enough they’re not!)

Squish! This took a decent amount of force, plush but stable!

Tantus rates the Hookah as 8.5A Shore – though to folks that are more versed in fantasy and softer Shore toys – Tantus’ “Super Soft” is more middle-of-the-road soft. (You can read more about silicone Shore here!) Their site lists it as having a “matte” finish but I’d describe it like a satin – because of the slight shimmer & the squish factor making the surface a bit sticky. (Here’s where I remind you to wash your toys both before and after use, and if all else fails – store silicone toys in Ziploc bags!)

Being new to softer toys, the novelty alone of Tantus’ Super Soft is awesome to me. It has a great squish while remaining sturdy enough that I’m not worried it’ll bend & jab me in the wrong spot, and it bounces right back up. If it was socially acceptable for me to walk around using the Hookah as a stress ball, I probably would.

That’s great on paper – but what about in practice?

Remember that talk we had about my preferences? The one where I lean on the smaller side of average? Yeah. I didn’t read the fucking specs when I bought the Hookah, please do as I say and not as I do. (I think I hyper-focused on the length and couldn’t visualize what 2” would really mean to me? Either way.) Luckily, not being a very firm toy – the Hookah cuts me a break and the size is still enjoyable – but yeah it’s fucking wide.

Width, paired with texture (and the “sticky” sort of drag of the silicone) makes lube not just a suggestion but a requirement. (Luckily the head size doesn’t add to penetration issues! Warm up is highly suggested.) With that in mind – my ideal use of the Hookah is grinding – not thrusting. Best paired with the Palm Power Recharge because the Hookah takes up a bit of space and placing a more pin-pointed toy like the Womanizer is harder to manage. (What’s also hard to manage? Reaching that third swirl if I’m not hell bent on making it happen. Be careful!)

If you’re braver than I am, maybe you’ll like thrusting. The swirls make a nice “pop” in-and-out, but it’s not something I’d be comfortable thrusting quickly with. You know how you’re not supposed to rip out anal beads like you’re starting a lawnmower? Similar concept, don’t rush the texture.

Tantus’ description says the Hookah is “perfect for g-spot or prostate stimulation” but as I’ve said before, my g-spot is a fan of firm pressure & small thrusts so I didn’t find the Hookah especially great for targeting that. You know what it is great for? Being really lazy and wanting something especially filling.

Bottom Line:

So, what’s all this?

All in all, I don’t think I’ve ever met a Tantus toy I didn’t enjoy. I’d happily suggest the Hookah to anyone looking to get their feet wet with fantasy shapes without breaking the bank, and folks that dig wider non-phallic toys. (Also folks that like fantasy toys, but don’t want too many textured details.) Fans of fullness & grinding are likely to also be fans of the Hookah.

The Hookah was a great way for me to add some variety (in both size & texture) to my collection and get some pretty lazy blended orgasms. My only “complaint” is entirely user error – cuz apparently I don’t visualize size very well, and I probably should have looked a bit closer at the chart before going “Oh yeah 2″ wide that’s fine whatever”. (Card carrying Size Queens that love texture, though? You’ll do great.)

Does the Hookah sound like it’s right up your alley? You can snag one for yourself, here – via Tantus. (Or check out their entire “Super Soft” line – here!)

What do y’all think? Do you have a sex toy brand you’re freakishly loyal to? Are there any other solid “beginner” fantasy shapes out there? Want to suggest something else for me to review? Let me know in the comments!

Omg I am currently in live with Tantus as a whole!!! They have great variety, and as someone who has definitely had many failed toy attempts, the variety and different sizes are fabulous. I unfortunately missed the big sale became of lack of funds. But next sale, I’m gonna snag another Tantus.

Omg, yay! Happy to hear it! I love recommending them pretty much for those same reasons – a great spot to know whatever you’re getting is top notch with soooo many options! I missed their 50% off sale a few months ago and purposely set aside a little bit for the next time it ran so I could get something out of my comfort zone without being too worried about potentially throwing money into the void aha.

Hmm, you make me want to go spend money I don’t have on toys now 🤣🤦‍♀️

    • Kitty Kitty says:

I’m a terrible influence, sorry not sorry! My best friend twisted my arm during their last grab bag sale and I both love and hate them for it ahah. (If it’s any consolation – at least it’s technically money well spent? Not a bad choice in the bunch!)

I think I only own one dildo (I for sure prefer vibrating clit action) that I got from an Etsy seller and now I wanna send it to you to see what you think lol. That being said, I’m hoping to finally try that Zalo I was telling you about this weekend

    • Kitty Kitty says:

Consider my curiosity piqued! I’ve definitely gone down the Etsy dildo rabbithole and thrown way too many things into my favorites folder on the off chance that I become a millionaire and need to buy 75 toys at once. (I used to be way more likely to just buy new vibrators but now that I pretty much have my favorites mapped out I only get adventurous with insertables aha.) But omg yes! I hope it’s fantastic! Our conversation fueled my partner & I aggressively looking up wearable vibes cuz I was like “LOOK AT HOW PRETTY!” ahah.

      • Tia says:

I could for sure give you the lowdown on butterfly/other wearables because they’re for sure my jam and they’re something where if you want them for how (many of them) they’re intended, you want something quiet but uhhh… That’s frequently not the case. Discretion is the better part of valor with secret thrills like public toy use because you really don’t want to pull unwilling parties into something that otherwise wouldn’t affect them.
